Position Overview
The Education Sales Consultant is responsible for generating sales revenue throughout Illinois by prospecting, conducting product demonstrations, building customer relationships, and helping schools identify solutions that support their educational initiatives.
Success in this role comes from maintaining a high level of activity, building strong relationships, and utilizing a consultative sales approach to uncover school needs and align VariQuest solutions accordingly.
Product demonstrations are conducted through a combination of virtual meetings and in-person visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct an average of six scheduled product demonstrations per week through a combination of virtual and in-person meetings
- Develop and manage a territory sales plan to achieve activity and revenue goals
- Prospect for new business opportunities within K-12 schools and districts
- Schedule and conduct product presentations with educators, administrators, and district leaders
- Follow an established consultative sales process to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate solutions
- Prepare and deliver customized proposals and quotations
- Maintain consistent follow-up activity through phone, email, video conferencing, and in-person meetings
- Build long-term relationships with customers to encourage repeat purchases and referrals
- Maintain accurate records, opportunities, and forecasts within Salesforce CRM
- Collaborate with sales leadership and cross-functional teams to support territory growth
- Attend regional and national education conferences and trade shows as needed
- Participate in strategic sales initiatives and special projects

The Education Sales Consultant is responsible for generating sales revenue, in an exclusive, multi-state sales territory, by making product presentations primarily to educators in the K-12 market through a combination of onsite and web-based meetings. The ideal candidate will live in or near the Kansas City area. The position requires a consultative sales approach to introduce product solutions to the education market.
Compensation is comprised of base salary plus uncapped commission
* Base: $55k - $65k
* Year 1 OTE: $75k - $90k+

* Running 6 product demos per week (virtual + in-person)
* Visiting schools and meeting with teachers, principals, and district leaders

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow an approved consultative sales process such as Professional Selling Skills (PSS) to complete an average of 6 sales presentations per week via scheduled self-booked phone appointments (virtual demos) and onsite meetings.
- Dedicates appropriate time to prospecting, presenting, and following up in order to create new customers and meet established demo and sales quota.
- Follows up with prospects on a timely basis via email, telephone, and web conferencing tools to convert leads to product presentations and closed sales.
- Plans weekly itineraries and schedules meetings for product presentations in order to meet company activity level expectations.
- Prepares accurate and timely customized quotes to prospective customers in the assigned territory.
- Generates additional sales by strategically targeting other prospective customers and soliciting referral business to meet or exceed sales quotas.
- Maintains strong, ongoing relationships with existing customers in order to enhance the customer experience and secure future sales and referrals.
- Collaborates regularly with management and peers, both in Direct Sales and other departments, to contribute ideas for strategizing and executing sales opportunities and identify areas for improvement.
- Recommends and plans for attendance at conferences/trade shows, and customer visits, in order to establish relationships with new and existing customers. Keeps within budgetary constraints. May be asked to work occasional trade shows on weekends.
- Overnight travel within the territory may be required. Up to 2 nights a month
- Provides regular sales forecasting as required by management.
- Follows established processes and procedures for gaining leads, presenting solutions, quoting, documenting completed product presentations, placing orders, closing out won and lost opportunities.
Sales Stewardship
- Responsible for managing sales-focused initiative projects
- Along with the sales manager take part in other Divisions projects as the voice of sales
- Fluent in all Sales Tools to include Salesforce
- Attend National and State Trade Shows when called upon
Qualifications

Education/Experience
- Requires post-secondary education in business, marketing, education or related field. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Current or previous educators with consultative B2B sales experience strongly desired.
- Previous successful consultative sales experience, especially in the education market.
- Strong follow-up skills.
Language Ability:
Intermediate skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and training manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Ability:
Basic skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
High skills – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Ability:
Requires intermediate MS Office skills (word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation applications); familiarity with using contact management systems (Salesforce.com) highly preferred; ability to learn and effectively use web meeting software; ability to efficiently navigate the internet is required.
