Accounting Manager

Job Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, financial risk management, and development of internal control policies and procedures.  This role is particularly well-suited for an Accounting Manager or an individual with similar experience to advance into an eventual controller position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in the company’s strategic planning.  
  • Assures financial plans are consistent with organizational goals.
  • Safeguards assets and assures accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments, including payroll. Proactively analyzes company data and reports potential opportunities or threats.
  • Manages the finance and accounting team to ensure the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, and cost accounting. 
  • Assures that transactional systems in the company work smoothly and are mapped appropriately to the financial systems.
  • Strategically tracks and manages the company’s cash flow including AR and AP Aging, inventory aging, etc.
  • Provides management and employees with financial analysis and other tools and training to evaluate important company ventures, cost savings opportunities, expenses, etc., at both departmental and employee level.
  • Manages lender relationships and vendor trade credit lines to facilitate credit resources under competitive terms to maximize net income and cash flow.
  • Works closely with CEO and/or Human Resources in the development and evaluation of various fringe benefit programs for staff and ensures proper levels of insurance to manage the company’s risks, ensure the proper execution of the company’s payroll, and compliance in all states regarding matters of worker’s compensation, mandated employee insurances, and other mandated requirements.
  • Ensures the company is in good standing and in compliance with all country, state and local authorities to do business in all areas where the company is operating. Including but not limited to sales tax compliance, payroll compliance and state registrations.
  • Works closely with the company’s external audit firm to produce timely audited financial results on an annual basis.
  • Prepares and delivers routine and ad hoc financial analytics and written or verbal reports to the President, Board of Directors, and/or Members. Ensures Members’ tax burdens and the company’s distributions are appropriately managed according to the Member Control Agreement.  Ensures that K-1s are distributed timely.
  • Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university plus five or more years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA license is not required.

Computer Skills: 

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate to advanced knowledge of word processing software (e.g., MS Word), spreadsheet software (e.g., MS Excel), financial/accounting, and ERP systems.  Familiarity with payroll systems and working knowledge of CRM systems, preferably Salesforce.com. 

Language Ability:

  • High Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

Math Ability:

  • Intermediate Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Very High Skills – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
