Classroom Activity and Materials: Focus on Reading!

The National Education Association's Read Across America Day is celebrated in classrooms across the United States each year on Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2nd. But why stop at one day, when you could make the focus last a whole week with fun activities to instill in your students a love of reading? 

I've put together some materials for you to use to celebrate reading in your classroom. Download them for free, now!

Reading "Spirit" Week!

Download this printable schedule to display as a poster in your classroom or school, or make 8.5x11" copies to send home with students to help parents plan for the week's festive dress-up days! Each day is themed after a Dr. Seuss book, which you can read aloud to your class to tie everything together!

• Monday: "Many Colors" Day - My Many Colored Days
• Tuesday: "Hat" Day - Hats off to Dr. Seuss Boxed Set, or any Dr. Seuss book!
• Wednesday: "Wacky" Day - Wacky Wednesday
• Thursday: "Thing" Day (Dress the same as a friend!)- The Cat in the Hat
• Friday: "Fun Socks" Day - Fox in Socks or The Foot Book

"What's Your Favorite Book?" Graphing Activity

Print this banner, displaying some Dr. Seuss (or other) books that students have read, and have them vote on which is their favorite using the VariQuest Cutout Maker 1800 shape MNI037 or dot stickers. After all the votes are in, have students graph the results and analyze the data! This can involve the whole school, a grade level, or just a classroom.
